Free Online Tool for Perfect Image & Video Proportions

Struggling to squeeze images or videos into weird shapes for social media or your website? That’s where an aspect ratio generator can save your sanity.

With this free online tool, create pixel-perfect visuals in seconds—no more guesswork or frustrating cropping. Whether you're a photographer, designer, web developer, or a social media enthusiast, getting your aspect ratios right means your content fits everywhere.

What Is Aspect Ratio and Why Is It Critical?

Think of aspect ratio as your content’s shape DNA—it’s the proportional relationship between width and height. Getting it wrong leads to stretched, pixelated, or cropped visuals. Getting it right means your images and videos look stunning on every platform.

Popular ratios like 16:9 (classic widescreen), 4:3 (retro and tablets), and 1:1(Instagram squares) each have unique strengths for different use cases.

How Our Aspect Ratio Calculator Works

Let’s make it easy. Just enter your image’s width or height, select your desired aspect ratio, and our calculator instantly gives you the right dimensions—no confusing math required.

  • Calculate ratios for images and videos instantly.
  • Convert custom sizes to popular presets: 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, and more.
  • Create content optimized for YouTube, Instagram, presentations, and web design.

Formula for Aspect Ratio

Calculating an aspect ratio is simple and can be done using a straightforward formula:

Aspect Ratio = Width / Height

Both width and height should be in the same units (pixels, inches, cm, etc.). Then simplify to the nearest whole numbers—like 4:3, not 400:300.

The result is often expressed as two whole numbers separated by a colon — for example, 16:9 or 4:3 — which represent the proportional relationship between width and height.

To convert the decimal ratio into whole numbers, find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the width and height and divide both by that number.

Example:

If your image is 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high, divide 1920 by 1080 to get approximately 1.78. The GCF of 1920 and 1080 is 120, so dividing both by 120 gives the aspect ratio as 16:9.

Understanding this formula helps you maintain perfect proportions so your images and videos look clear without distortion or cropping.
